VIdeo & Cedar Ridge
I really enjoyed watching the video about guided reading. I thought it was extremely interesting to compare and contrast the differences that I saw the class after watching the movie. At cedar ridge I was given the opportunity to see a guided reading session take place. I thought that the teacher did a very good job promoting fluency and other components of the big 5. The only thing that I didn't like about the guided reading session was that the teacher couldn't keep her eyes on the rest of the class. In the end it all worked out! :)

I'm interested in what you mean by "it all worked out." Also, one approach that many teachers are now exploring is called "Daily 5." It's not a literacy curriculum, but it's a management approach to support students engaging independently in things like read-to-self, writing, read to a partner, etc. so that the teacher can really devote her or his attention to a small group. It doesn't include much opportunity for social interaction around texts, but again, it would be good for you guys to know about. Here's the URL: http://www.the2sisters.com/the_daily_5.html
